The trail takes you to considerable heights across a variety of elevations where altitude sickness poses a main issue. When you are at high elevations you are always prone to altitude sickness. As you make your journey through the different levels of elevation the thinner air causes altitude sickness. You will have such symptoms as headache, sickness, loss of appetite along insomnia due to acute mountain sickness. If you are not given enough attention the outcome might also be fatal in such situations.

It doesn’t matter if someone is an experienced or a novice trekker altitude sickness is a common challenge that everyone has to face when they are trekking. Hence the effects of altitude will still be felt by those in excellent physical condition but it won’t be necessarily a struggle for experienced trekkers. But anyway, proper preparation is necessary for everyone.

Hydration

Staying hydrated is a must when you embark on a challenging journey through the regions of Annapurna. In the higher elevations, the air is thin and dry and for your body to compensate for moisture loss, you must maintain optimum water levels inside your body. Also, Higher elevations have lower humidity your body will leave water through sweat more frequently which will furthermore enhance the effects of Altitude sickness. The need to urinate more and heavy breathing is another side effect of altitude sickness and without you realizing it, your body excessively loses water. You must therefore replenish the fluids in your body by consuming four to five liters of water, or more, as needed. Staying hydrated will improve both your physical and mental well-being during your Annapurna Circuit Trek. So stay consistently hydrated, and take necessary precautions in case of severe dehydration.

Remoteness

The Annapurna circuit takes you through a high elevation. At the higher elevations, the locations will be remote, and less inhabitants compared to the lower regions of the route. However, you will be able to find teahouses and lodges which offer an adequate service at such altitude. But you shouldn’t expect any extravagant amenities in those regions of Annapurna. As you move through higher and higher elevations communicating through mobile phones might be a problem. Hence it is advisable to inform friends and families beforehand about the routes and destinations for a safe journey.
